Animation

Cleanup and Preparations

One of my jobs was to prepare a scene for the cutscene animators. For that I often was handed a rough sketch, but sometimes only had to work with the briefing of the writers. Sometimes I even got to animating that scene as well.

Travel Screens

Another style of storytelling in this game, next to cutscenes, were the travel screens. They were basically illustrated bookpages on which the player could choose which way to take. I used existing Spine rigs to pose the characters, as often as possible and painted over them or altered them as necessary. The backgrounds were then added by the background artists.

Storyboards

For the cutscenes there had to be storyboards done first. Storyboards can be pretty rough, but in this case they were pretty detailed and had to show the final composition as well as visualize the ideas of the writers clearly.

The Pillars of the Earth

Based on Ken Follett’s world-bestseller, ‘The Pillars of the Earth’ retells the story of the village of Kingsbridge in a whole new interactive way. Play as Jack, Aliena and Philip and change the events of the book through exploration, decision-making and dialogues. This interactive novel contains three ‘books’, containing 7 chapters each.
